The genetic betrayal that is their legacy

P8087399So much for the romantic anniversary dinner...

All four of the kids were excited to celebrate our anniversary with us.
Lucy and Jonathan conspired to set a beautiful table. Amy and Adam showed up shortly after getting off work. They got us a fabulous Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker - which we will definitely love and use a lot - Thanks, guys!

But, I'm conflicted.  I'm not sure whether I should be flattered or irritated that they were present for our dinner.

I made my husband's favorite filet mignon and we (all six of us!) snuggled up after dinner to watch "Music and Lyrics" on The Big Screen in the backyard.

Finding time to be alone has always been difficult for us considering how many personalities we have to negotiate around here.  But we always manage to find moments even in the midst of the craziness.

P80873801 I have to confess, Eric and I did have an intimate "moment" during dinner.  He looked up at me a little helplessly as all four of our offspring were engaged in a lively and loud debate (probably something having to do with Kevin Bacon =D) talking all at once and shouting over each other as (he has learned) we Cubans tend to do.

And he silently raised his glass and winked at me.

I took it in conspiratorial form, as if he was saying, "well, it's nice to know they still want to be with us."

Come to think of it, I never really got clarification.  Maybe he was really just shaking his head internally and thinking, "They are so noisy!  It has to be their Cuban genes. I blame YOU."

Oh, well. . . here's to our noisy and wonderful life!

L'chaim!  ;-)
