Once Upon a Time Returns for Season 6: The Savior #OnceUponATime #ABCTVEvent
/Last week when I was in LA I had the opportunity to screen the Season 6 Premiere Episode of ABC's "Once Upon A Time," which airs tonight. (I know. Be jealous.)
I've been a fan of the show from the beginning, so it was an amazing treat to sit down with Co-creators and Executive Producers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz and get the lowdown on how they create the stories what we will be seeing in Season 6.
Here's our group of bloggers ready to take ABC by storm.
In the last few seasons, we've seen the characters go to Neverland and the Underworld. In this season, the characters we have so grown to know and love will be returning to Storybrooke to try to rebuild their lives.
[If you need to catch up on Once Upon a Time, you can binge watch the entire series of Once Upon a Time in Wonderland here for free! You're welcome.]
According to co-creator Adam Horowitz, "We're trying to dig more into what daily life is; what normal is. In an early episode you're going to see Snow White ask the question, 'What is normal? And how do we get back to it?'"
Edward Kitsis described the impetus for what drives the story arc of each character in Storybrook: They have to have faith. "The thing about faith is you have to choose to have it. If you need proof, then you don’t really have it."
(I felt like saying, "Amen," but that's not important right now.)
The Season 6 opener, "The Savior," really takes a close look at "true love," and the force of love between siblings, parents and children and, of course, romantic relationships.
Because Once Upon a Time is a show without the limits of an ending, the creators are free to leave the bulk of the story unfinished. Happily ever after, is not, after all, the ending. Once Upon a Time then is a show about the journeys, not the endings. (Profound, right?)
In Episode 1 of Season 6, as our heroes set out to stop Hyde, the following events take place:
(NO SPOILERS, I promise.)
- Emma develops a very mysterious side effect, which she tries to keep hidden.
- Storybrooke becomes a haven for people from the Land of Untold Stories.
- Regina and Zelena embrace their newfound sisterhood by becoming roommates.
- Rumple tries to free Belle from the Sleeping Curse with the help of a stranger.
- Jafar confronts an afflicted Aladdin in Agrabah, and a secret about The Savior is revealed.
In this season, they will be looking more at Emma, who works so hard to give everyone else their happy ending. Will she finally get hers?
Adam Horowitz explains, "In the past, we've seen the characters within Storybrooke who have been affected by The Curse, whose stories intersect with our main characters. In the case of characters whose happy endings have been ripped away by the Evil Queen and her curse.
With the Land of Untold Stories, it's a little bit different, and what we're exploring is characters who have run away from their stories, who have left them and gone to this other place.
Now they find themselves in Storybrooke in stories that may have been put on pause and resumed."
Also, much to my everlasting delight, Once Upon a Time's classic villain, The Evil Queen returns. (Yes, please! Thankyouverymuch.)
While I can't wait to see how they explore the more familiar stories, some new and exciting people will be introduced in the new season: Captain Nemo and The count of Monte Cristo. Can you even wait for those storylines?
Edward Kitsis described their anchor as they write the stories, "I think this show has always been about a family. There's a lot of romance and I think you're going to see the first few episodes of season 6 have a lot of that romance in them, but at the end of the day, the curse was broken between a son and a mom. Family comes first on this show, and that is important to us."
I happen to agree wholeheartedly with that. Family comes first.
Once Upon a Time premieres tonight, Sunday, September 25th, 2016. 8:00/9:00 pm EDT
