Looks and Brains

I don't get to see all of my big, fat, Cuban family as often as I'd like.
Don't get me wrong. My sisters and I and their families who live nearby are in each other's lives and business a good chunk of the time (obviously, if you've been reading my blog for a while you know this, but that's not important right now).  But of course, being Cuban, I have lots more family in lots more places.

This was one of the delightful things about being in Miami last week. Being able to reunite with family members and friends who are like family. 3,000 miles is just too darn far!

But this is the part that's fun for me - the far away people read my blog and so are able to keep up with Cuban-American life in The O.C. (or the "Oh, Sí!").

Take, for example, my beautiful niece, Julie, who is a student at the University of Texas in Austin, and who just happens to be turning 21 today.  I don't have much contact with her, but when I saw her in Miami, practically the first thing she said to me was:

"I have your cookbook and I make stuff out of it all the time!"

Julie

Shut. UP.
Not only is she beautiful, she's obviously SMART too!  ;-)

Happy 21st Birthday, Julie!

Besos,
Auntie M
